There Is Nothing Wrong With You || By Phannie Krentzman
We all think something is wrong with us. It is the human condition. Our self-perception sits upon an assumption that fundamentally, we are broken. That something is missing.
A gazelle doesn’t spend its life seeking its place in the world. It simply lives in accordance with the rules of nature and its subjective role – no suffering, just living.
As humans we have this experience very briefly in life. Unlike the rest of the natural world we operate under an invisible assumption that we are separate – and we spend our lives unwittingly resolving that pain. In fact all emotional turmoil and suffering can be traced back to this invisible puppeteer.
Your unconscious preoccupation with resolving this fundamental human condition has you looking anywhere but within – but within is where you’ll discover the gold of your being. Your eternal self, empowered in its own self-knowing and inherent power.
“Within,” can and should start with your body. Your body IS your nature. That’s right, read it again. Your body IS your nature. We’ve come a long way from perceiving ourselves as nature but it doesn’t change the fact your body, the vehicle you walk your thoughts, worries, projections, defeats, joy and sorrow around in, IS nature. Every single part of it.
There is an aspect of your body and your felt sense that knows its wholeness and inherent continuity with all things.
Your heart, and I’m talking about your literal heart, the one beating in your chest right now, points to your TRUE condition as a Human Being – as eternity wrapped in temporary flesh.
Without your heart you have no life. We are very brain or mind focused in our society, but the heart, and its role in the body, tells us very clearly which one runs the show. Your heart feeds your brain. Your body will stay alive without cognition, “being brain dead.” But there is no such thing as heart dead (in case you’re wondering, that means actual death-game over, you’re gone).
Going back to that assumption that believes you are separate, it denies that truth. That you have a heart, and that it is the organizing principle of life. Think about what the heart represents – Love, compassion, the core of your being, yet we rarely go to -excuse the pun- the heart of the matter to find our way out of our pain and suffering. We stay in the realm of mind and perception trying to fix something we aren’t even aware is running the show.
So on the one hand we have that pesky assumption telling us that we are separate and must find a way to become whole before we can have ‘that thing’ that is just on the other side of whatever we’ve labeled as our missing piece – perfection, being good enough, being deserving, belonging, permission, control, safety, knowing, power. And on the other hand we have our heart. Our heart which signals to us that what we seek we already are. But I mean…that couldn’t possibly be right could it?
I’ll tell you what, the mind hates simplicity. We build these massive stories and reasons and conditions all to create barriers and protections from that assumption – our whole identities are constructed to guard against that pain. We don’t know this, because it is hidden from our awareness, in the shadows of our unconscious beliefs. Our culture feeds the fixing of what’s wrong with us. It has entire industries built upon the fact that we all seek our wholeness anywhere but within ourselves.
The paradox to the seemingly impossible equation of fixing ourselves is love. And boy is that cheesy to say – but really. It’s not the mushy romantic or conditional love we’ve learned, it’s true love. Love that is defined as our inherent connection to something. Love, the feeling of it, the knowing of it is a message from the heart saying, this is already yours.
When we follow our love, our passion, our mysterious desires we inadvertently heal, because we begin to operate free from that invisible puppeteer. We begin to tell ourselves. There is actually nothing wrong with me, nothing to fix.
You have a heart, and it can feed everything you do, if you are willing to follow it.
