BIPOC Internship Stipend Program

Workforce Diversification Stipend Information and Application

At People House, we are committed to supporting and nurturing aspiring counselors who are passionate about making a positive impact on the world. We are also committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the counseling field.

To further these commitments, we are excited to introduce the People House BIPOC Internship Stipend Program, a 3-year pilot initiative aimed at empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds who are pursuing careers in counseling. This program will provide financial support and opportunities to selected BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) individuals, offering $500 per trimester for up to two interns per trimester. Each intern may receive the stipend for a maximum of two trimesters, totaling $1,000 in financial support throughout the program.

In the following information and application below, you'll find detailed information about the program, including eligibility criteria, application instructions, and the selection process. Please note that if you are awarded more than $599 in stipends within a calendar year, you will be required to complete a W-9 form for tax purposes and will receive a 1099 form by January 31st of the following year. We encourage you to carefully review this information and consider how this unique opportunity aligns with your career aspirations.

Thank you for considering People House as the place to grow, learn, and make a meaningful difference. We look forward to receiving your application and, hopefully, embarking on this transformative journey together.

Fine Print: BIPOC Internship Stipend Program

  1. Stipend Program Overview: We are pleased to announce our BIPOC Internship Stipend Program. This initiative has been designed to provide financial support and opportunities to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) individuals pursuing a career in counseling.
  2. Application Disclaimer: Completing this application does not guarantee an interview spot or stipend award and is contingent upon being accepted into the Affordable Counseling Program (ACP).
  3. Contingent Acceptance: Receiving the stipend is contingent upon acceptance into an internship with our ACP, ensuring a commitment to our organization's mission.
  4. Stipend Award: Up to two interns may be selected per trimester to receive a $500 stipend, as defined by our organization's specific schedule (not necessarily aligned with traditional university trimesters). Each recipient may receive a maximum of $1,000 over two trimesters. If total stipends exceed $599 in a calendar year, recipients must complete a W-9 and will receive a 1099 by January 31st of the following year.
  5. Tax Reporting: If the stipends awarded to an individual total over $599 in a calendar year, the stipend recipient will receive a 1099  form from People House. Recipients are responsible for reporting the stipend as income and withholding taxes as required by law.
  6. Selection Process: A standing review committee will evaluate and select recipients based on their qualifications, financial need, and commitment to the counseling field. This committee is separate and independent from those interviewing and selecting individuals for the internship.
  7. Eligibility: To be eligible for the stipend, applicants must identify as BIPOC individuals, irrespective of gender identity.
  8. Reapplication: Applicants who are not selected during their initial application are encouraged to reapply in the subsequent cycle.
  9. Deadline: Please note that the deadline for submitting your stipend application coincides with the deadline for applying to our internship program. Make sure to complete both applications by the specified deadline to be considered for the BIPOC Internship Stipend Program.
  10. Internship Agreement: Interns selected to receive the stipend must fulfill their internship obligations in accordance with the terms outlined in the internship agreement. Failure to complete the internship as agreed upon may result in forfeiture of the stipend.
  11. Participant Feedback: To help us assess the effectiveness of the BIPOC Internship Stipend Program and make improvements for future participants, stipend recipients agree to complete an exit survey upon completion of their internship. The survey will gather feedback on various aspects of the program, including its impact on career development, financial support, and overall experience. Participation in the survey is voluntary, but highly encouraged as it provides valuable insights for enhancing the program's impact.
  12. Terms and Conditions Subject to Change: Our organization reserves the right to modify the terms, eligibility criteria, or other aspects of the BIPOC Internship Stipend Program as necessary. While we have made every effort to ensure the accuracy of the information provided, we cannot be held responsible for inaccuracies or changes that may occur. Any such changes will be communicated to participants in a timely manner.
  13. Privacy Disclaimer: Your personal information will be kept confidential and will only be used to determine stipend awards. We handle your information in strict accordance with applicable privacy laws and regulations, including any data retention policies mandated by law.
  14. Payment Delays and Late Fees: The organization endeavors to disburse stipends promptly according to the established schedule. However, the organization shall not be held responsible for any late fees, penalties, or other financial consequences incurred by participants due to delays in stipend payments, regardless of the cause of such delays.
  15. Force Majeure: The organization shall not be held liable for any delay or failure to fulfill its obligations under the BIPOC Internship Stipend Program if such delay or failure is caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, natural disasters, war, government actions, pandemics, or other unforeseen circumstances.
  16. Limitation of Liability: Our organization includes a clause that limits our liability for any losses, damages, or disputes related to the stipend program to the extent permitted by applicable law. This clause is designed to protect both the organization and participants while ensuring compliance with legal requirements. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the organization shall not be held liable for any damages, losses, or claims arising from the modification, suspension, or termination of the BIPOC Internship Stipend Program, regardless of the reason for such actions. Participants acknowledge and agree that their participation in the program is at their own risk and that the organization shall not be responsible for any financial or other consequences resulting from program changes.
