At People House, we believe the first step to becoming the best that we can be is to accept our total self as we are now and the experience of life as an opportunity for growth. By teaching and practicing compassion and accepting each individual for who and what they are in the here and now, it enables us to create love, joy, peace, and fulfillment in our life experience. We offer programs that advocate for living a life of conscious awareness and responsibility, while acknowledging that we are each constantly progressing along a unique path where we will all need some help somewhere along the way.
Our Services
Affordable Counseling Program
We offer affordable, low-cost mental health counseling to those who might otherwise be unable to experience the transformative power and support of professional counseling. Our perspective is holistic, starting with the premise that the development and integration of mind, body, and spirit is necessary to become healthy, fulfilled, and productive.
Practitioners
You can find a variety of holistic professionals at People House. Our practitioners conduct their practice of healing, education and/or growth according to the ethics and guidelines of their particular field. In addition, they maintain a belief in the wisdom of the individual that is in harmony with the basic People House philosophy.
Counseling Internship Placements
This is an ideal site for individuals who are Master’s level student in counseling, psychology or marriage and family therapy and thrive in a supportive environment that also requires personal independence and team collaboration. It is best suited to mature candidates who eventually plan to do private practice, although that is not a requirement.
Spiritual Community
At People House, we believe in a few, simple guidelines, which help us increase our experience of Love. These are suggestions, not requirements. We encourage investigation and consideration of all beliefs.
Remembering Paul Zweig, a Beloved Pillar of the People House Community
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Paul Zweig, a cherished volunteer and pillar of the People House community. For over 20 years, Paul generously volunteered his time, expertise, and compassionate spirit to the Affordable Counseling Program to provide accessible mental health care for all and to our mission as a center for personal and spiritual growth.

Testimonials
"My only complaint is that I wish I started counseling sooner. I waited a long time and when I finally hit that breaking point I took my friend's advice and looked into People House. Frantically scrolling through all of the interns profiles I immediately felt a sense of relief reading the one that resonated with me. I called and she immediately answered. I can honestly say that initial conversation saved me in a lot of ways. I was very lost and afraid but hearing a sweet and calming voice willing to help- regardless of financial situation - was the biggest weight off of my shoulders that I finally my made that first step. And it was so simple. I feel incredibly fortunate to have connected with my therapist the way that I did especially since it was my first experience ever in counseling." ~ ACP Client
"I don’t know how I would have made it through the past year without the help of counselors at People House. The help and care I have received has made me a better version of myself." ~ ACP Client
"People House provided me with access to counseling that I otherwise would never have had. Counseling has given me the tools that I desperately needed in order to manage stress and better understand myself and the way I interact with the world." ~ACP Client
"People House was able to get me in contact with a counselor that not only could I afford but also offered me life-changing services. Without People House I would never have found the counselor that has made such an incredible impact on me." ~ACP Client
"[My therapist] helped me empower myself in ways that I never had been able to do before on my own. She helped me write over uncomfortable past experiences in therapy with incredible new experiences that I know I’ll hold with me for the rest of my life." ~ACP Client
"I am so grateful that the ACP is an option. Being able to talk with someone through difficult personal social and economic times has very literally been a lifesaver on multiple occasions. I don’t know what the screening process is like to become a counselor for PH but whatever it is it’s working incredibly!! I have seen 2 folks through ACP and both have been amazing people that truly made therapy less intimidating and feel like I made genuine progress." ~ACP Client
"It has been very beneficial having a counselor at People House it has kept me accountable with my goals and having the ability to discuss my emotions/perspectives and get feedback has been very transformative." ~ACP Client
"I'm really grateful for [my therapist]- I feel supported and cared for in ways that are entirely new to me and it's making a difference in how I show up for myself and for those around me. I'm grateful to People House for offering a sliding scale accessible program. Without it I wouldn't' have reached out when I did; in the middle of a pandemic with financial distress and ironically when I needed mental support the most I've ever needed it in my life." ~ACP Client
"My therapist's counseling helped me learn and process more about myself than I ever could have on my own. I've become a better person with her help." ~ACP Client
"If it weren't for People House I don't think I could have afforded the therapy I needed to better my social life, relationship with my significant other, and my work. I'm forever grateful." ~ACP Client
"PH made the option of having a therapist I really connected with at a very affordable price. I cannot recommend PH enough. It changed my life. My therapist helped me see different perspectives not only on situations but about myself too. She helped instill more confidence within myself and gave me so many tools that are applicable in real time. I looked forward to our sessions every week because I knew I would be walking away with a new sense of self and some homework to really dive into. My experience was amazing." ~ACP
"People House feels like somewhat of a safe haven especially for those new to the city and in need of counseling. Having previously never had positive experiences with therapy/therapists before PH has changed my life for the better by making mental health services accessible, affordable, and community-oriented in a way I haven't seen previously. I plan on remaining connected through the events they offer even after my time in therapy has come to an end. Thank you for all you do People House!" ~ACP Client

It’s Never Over || By Beth Hinnen, Certified Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher
These words may strike fear in the heart … or they may be the most freeing ones ever. For me, it’s the latter. As I walk the spiritual path, I make an effort to stay open to new sources of information from many different places (okay, YouTube provides a good chunk of that right now),…

Recently, my partner and I were considering moving to a new neighborhood. There were, of course, things we’d miss about the house we’d called home for the past five years, but the most bittersweet part was leaving behind our peach tree. We planted it three years ago, and this year, for the first time, she…
